Above: Mrs Prudy
O'Christian (1833) "A Woman Who Loved The Lord Above All Things." |
*About: The 210 year old O'Christian family tradition continues
in our church to this day. This is the earliest known photo of an O'Christian
family member. The O'Christian Watermellon farm is the largest of its kind
in America. Its fields are still worked by the descendents of the same
negro slaves that harvested the crops over 200 years ago. It is remembered
that Mrs. Prudy was particularly fond of disciplining her slaves with a
coarse bullwhip. She and her husband Ivan also branded their slaves with
a hot iron poker. The brand mark was placed on the left rump and read,
"Property of O'Christian Watermellon Farm." |
