"Pastor's Mailbag" Your article written on the Veggie Tales is NUTS! Veggie Tales was created to make the Bible a more entertaining way to teach children about it. When you were 5 years old, do you think you really wanted your parents to recite you stories in the Bible in monotone. No! This is a very healthy way for young children to learn about the teachings in the Holy Book. I myself am a Quaker, also raised as a Christian but I think that your article was just absurd. A cucumber used as a phallic symbol? Like, really? I honestly don't agree with that at all. The creators of this company are genius. By the way, you might want to get your facts straight or learn how to spell. Its Shamoo the whale, not Shampoo. And JUSTIN Guarini not JUSTINE. What does he have to do with any of this anyways? I have seen your site, and It did made me sad, because I know that you are doing something that’s not healthy for the humanity. The Bible shows that we must be serious about the things of God. having been a member for some time, I have begun to more carefully read your articles and I think some are uncalled for. My kids are right here looking at it and you put nudity on there!Every article I read I completely diagreed with and yes I am a christian. Half of what I read I have not seen in my Bible. What Bible are you reading? The final thing I'd like to say is that you cannot guarantee someone's salvation. It is their choice, and also you cannot bribe them. Breedmadu Regarding the Wii Article: First things first, the controllers the mother found her daughter and her friends using does not use infra red lasers, it uses radio signals, and two even if it had infra red lasers she would have not been able to see the infra red beams, human eyes cannot see that spectrum of light. infra red lasers are in tv remotes and older wireless controllers for the ps2 xbox and gamecube systems. Three, the rest of your article is a bunch of trash, using it to push blame on the video gaming community. Videogames do not cause children to become satanic worshipping killers and what not. the blame actually falls on the parents, who buy the games for their kids so they wont bother them. I worked for a videogame store and majority of the parents didnt even know what the game they were buying for their kids even had in it. It was part of our responsiblties to tell the parent about the games. A lot of parents then refused to buy certain games, but other parents didnt even care. Nintendo is a kid friendly system, the games for their systems vary rarely go over a teen rating. so next time you decide to tell lies about something, make sure you know at least how it operates. i really feel sorry for you and your congregation. I am studying religious responses to the 1950s polio epidemic in Canada, Britain, and the United States. I came across an article on your website from 2003 stating that Randall Doyal who "recently developed polio and is confined to a wheelchair" was expelled from the church because he is "Biblically ineligible to enter God's home." The following scriptural reference was given: And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God. For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous. Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded, Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken" (Leviticus 21:16-20). I found this information very interesting. I would greatly appreciate a response to the following questions, or advice on where I might go to have them answered. 1) Do you have any archival information on similar responses or expulsions in the 1950s for ailments resulting from contraction of polio? Is it safe to assume the Landover Baptist Church expelled "polios" in the 1900s (especially in the 1950s)? How many? 2) Would all Baptist Churches have expelled (in the 1950s) persons with polio? Or is the Landover Baptist church particularly strict in this regard? As far as Baptist beliefs and their response to disease and illness go, I am trying to figure out if Landover Baptist Church is the exception or the rule to an overall "Baptist Response" to polio. 3) My research so far is indicating that in the 1950s, church attendance in the United States declined, perhaps due to official action or public fear of gathering in places where disease could be caught from others. In your mind, what do you think would have been the logical response of the Landover pastor in the 1950s? Would he have encouraged his "flock" to stay home? 4) Would people at Landover have prayed that they would not contract polio? Would there be much use in that? Or do Landover Baptists believe in predestination? (If it's going to happen, it will happen). 5) Would a person paralysed by polio be welcomed back if and after they got better? Or is it once you are out, you are out. 6) I noticed from reading some other articles on your webpage that gender, age, and colour are important factors in your belief system. Would gender, age, ethnicity (skin colour), or class, be a contributing factor in expelling a "polio" from the church? Or would all polios have been expelled regardless of age, gender, "race", etc. 7) Would they have been welcomed back if they got better (no longer showed any sign of being paralyzed?) 8) Would paralysis caused by polio be interpreted as punishment for personal sin? Societal sin? 9) Would the entire family of the person who had polio be expelled from the church? If so, why? 10) Were/are Landover Baptists allowed to receive the polio vaccination? If not, why? 11) Do you consider yourself having the authority/historical background to answer these questions? Why or why not? Were you a member of the church at the time? Are there archival documents available to historians who are looking to have these questions answered? 12) Was Landover the major church in Iowa in the 1950s? How many people or families were registered at Landover in 1950? In 1960? 13) Does the interpretation of the Bible and general religious beliefs change over time, or would you say that the Landover Church is pretty much the same as it was when it began in 1692? 14) Curiosity Question: Your website states that the website is "not intended for readers under 18 years of age."
